The latest component is a new residential tower located adjacent to the steel trussed bridge over the river. Holdmark held a design competition for the site with the winning scheme being designed by COX Architects in collaboration with Kennedy Associates. The winning design references the steel truss structure of the bridge in a deliberate approach to give a very local character to the project. Most of the surrounding housing is of a lower scale so the proposed tower will become a landmark and a focus for the area. The building includes a major supermarket and support retail outlets as well as commercial space and an outdoor plaza. The design is the winning entry in a Design Excellence Competition for a key site forming part of Holdmark’s Shepherds Bay Urban Renewal Project at the junction of Church Street and Well Street, Meadowbank. It is currently the subject of a 75W application which is still to be determined by the Planning Assessment Commission (PAC). The PAC’s determination may include conditions which could affect this design. A subsequent Development Consent will also be required.
